About Me

Dr. Damla Demir

I was born on December 23, 1988, in Balıkesir. I studied medicine at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University between 2006 and 2013. I worked as a general practitioner at Tokat Yesilyurt Hospital between 2013 and 2014. My journey toward becoming a dermatologist began when the acne on my face during the TUS exam period lowered my self-esteem. I noticed how skin issues such as acne faced by people around me could affect their lives.

So I decided to become a dermatologist to help people and explain that these issues are temporary and curable. Between 2014 and 2018, I completed my training as a dermatologist assistant at Şişli Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital. I worked as a specialist doctor at Ümraniye Training and Research Hospital between 2018 and 2020. I worked as a Dr faculty member at Istanbul Medipol University Pendik Hospital in 2020-2021. Between 2021 and 2023, I was a faculty member at İstinye University's VM Medicalpark Maltepe Hospital. I am now offering services in my clinic.

Question and Answer

Which conditions can a dermatologist treat?

A doctor who specializes in treating conditions affecting the skin, hair, nails and mucus membranes is called a dermatologist. Common conditions that a dermatologist treats are vitiligo, acne, dermatitis, eczema, fungal skin infections, hair loss, dandruff, psoriasis, rosacea, warts, skin blemishes, skin cancer and nail disorders.

How are skin problems diagnosed?

Various diagnostic tests are performed to detect skin problems such as infections and allergies, but common tests include Patch test - To diagnose skin allergies, allergens are applied to the skin surface and the skin is examined for any reaction. Culture - The surface of the skin or nail is scraped and tested for the presence of bacteria, viruses or fungi. Biopsy - A sample of the skin is taken from an abnormal skin growth or lesion to diagnose conditions such as skin cancer.

What is a Dermatologist?

A dermatologist is a person who examines, diagnoses or carries out activities related to the treatment stages and treatment methods that deal with diseases on the underside of the skin and on the upper side of the skin.

Are dermatologists and plastic surgeons the same?

Dermatology and plastic surgery are not the same, but both specialties overlap. A plastic surgeon tends to perform surgical procedures such as facelifts, breast augmentation, nose jobs and correcting congenital disabilities and injuries. And a dermatologist is more concerned with problems on the surface of the skin, such as skin lesions, allergies and growths.
